I make discovering catchy songs even better. How can it be better? Well, I only play the hooks (you know, the catchy parts), so you never sit through an entire song you don’t love. You can easily add the ones you do love to your own streaming playlists by clicking here: hookblast.com/the-hookblast-playlist-season-three/

Even though all the other podcast hosts ridicule me and make jokes about how I didn’t go to a top-tier podcast host school, I am solidly nearly an above-average podcast host and I’m on my way to becoming the best one in the whole history of podcast hosts. So, there’s that.

Rough Transcript:

Hey, this is Mike McCready, your host on episode 47 of The Hookblast Podcast.  If you think about it, that’s more than 40 episodes.

I-I like to usually start the show off up-beat but today I have to unfortunately announce that…ok, are you sitting down?… so this is LAST time you’re going to be hearing THIS, song as the opening song on the podcast. More about my falling-out with Lance later.

Meanwhile, New York City presented me with a plaque of achievement… the mayor was there, there was a lot of fanfare… well, it was more of a numbered certificate than a plaque… you know, that I could frame…   and take to court if I want to dispute it…. well, it was a parking ticket…. but it had the mayor’s signature!

OK… First up today, we have a song from artist Heather Harvin. She never expected it to be released until she played it for a couple of friends who encouraged her to put it out despite it being outside her usual writing style….  This is All Eyes On Me

That’s All Eyes on Me from Heather Harvin.  I know what she means. My wife’s new dress was getting a lot of stares and even a few disapproving looks from some of our neighbors the other day. It wasn’t even that revealing. And, I thought it looked good on me.  Turns out, I had it on wrong.  Plus, also turns out…  you should never wear linen after labor day. Apparently, that’s something people know.

Up next we have something meant to take you away from the Covid blues and transport you to a tropical island far away. I don’t want you to think I’m pushing weed or anything…   It’s a song from Curt Yagi. This is Find My Way.

That’s a great song about how two people can be far away from one another and yet still keep the fire alive.  The great love philosopher Albert Einstein called that spooky action at a distance. It’s true.
See? I do know things. Good podca… Great podcast hosts know things like off the top of their heads.

That reminds me… uhh if you’re new to the podcast. Welcome. As you can hear,  I play some hooks. And I don’t get paid for it. I actually donate my efforts here as a United Nations Good Will Ambassador. Yeah. Well, it’s more of a, of a public service that I just do on my own. Or well, maybe more of a good deed? Ok, well my therapist says I do it because I have issues and crave attention. But that’s just his opinion!

Anyway, you add the songs you love to your own streaming playlists or subscribe to mine at hookblast.com, you rock out all week, and the next week we repeat. The shows are only about ten minutes. My wife says that’s as long as I can go due to my… ADD.  We release the episodes on Mondays and you can always fit ten minutes of listening time into your week. l listen when I’m working out… you know, working out the math of how many of the cupcakes I can eat without my wife noticing they’re missing.

Hey! That’s not easy when there are only two people in the house. I-I-I have to make up all kinds of explanations. Yesterday I blamed squirrels. Squirrels, in the house!  You know… like I didn’t think it through. It’s like, I said it and then was committed so you know, I had to see it through and make it believable? You know… Oh man…  those damn squirrels musta thought the cupcakes were nuts…..  I didn’t leave the door open, you left the door open! eh. sorry

For our third hook of today’s show we have a song clearly written from a regretful state of mind. This is John Carey with Should’a Left That Whiskey Alone.

That’s a great song to dance to. I love to dance and I’m actually kind of known for it here in the New York clubs although my style of dancing isn’t as popular as it was a few years ago.  But again…. talk about all eyes on yours truly. I was TOO good! I used to leave the dance circle crowd so satisfied with my performances that when I’d offer to do a little encore they were like, “nah, we’re good, we’ve had enough”.  That’s how good I was.

This is Round It Up by Rice.  It’s a song about stepping up your game if you’re not winning the struggles in your life, and if what you’re doing isn’t getting you the results you want… and I’m no stranger to that one.  Sorry. And you know, everyone around you is going through some kind of struggle. I’ll admit it. I used to be one of the 4 out of 3 people who struggle with math…. I think I said that right.

Sour Brothers’ mix of midwestern rock and country twang are sounds you might hear in artists such as Tom Petty, Wilco or Drive-By-Truckers.

OK…. before we get to today’s last hook, I mentioned I was going to tell you about my falling out with Lance, the “artist” who wrote and performs Rockin To The Dance Floor at the beginning of this podcast.  Well, he told me, you know, through his attorney, that… well… he just pointed out that our agreement was for me to use the song for season 3 of the podcast and this is the last episode of season 3 so technically he’s right, BUT he’s pulling the rug out from under me because I’ve been told by a lot of my fans that the one thing they love about this podcast is the music. Wait…  what? (off mic) Is that what they say?

Well anyway,  so this is gonna cost me fans.  Cuz Lance wanted major major MEGA cash…. well, actually fifteen bucks for me to continue using it. Yeah, well, you can say that’s not much until you do the conversion and realize that’s 105 in dog dollars. ha ha er Sorry.

Well anyway, next week we’ll be back with a new title track and as with all songs on this show, it will be used with permission from the rights holders.
OK. Now, I want to introduce you to artist Evan Field,… but he’s not here, so I’ll just play you his song, Never Let Go, which is a sonic nod to Third Eye Blind and The Spin Doctors.

That’s a fun song.  Evan says he and his girlfriend are opposites in so many ways that this song practically wrote itself.

OK, that’s all the time we have for episode 47 of The Hookblast Podcast. And wow!, it has been amazing to hear some of you tell me these episodes feel so much longer than they are. And that’s cuz I pack in so much quality, I’m pretty sure.   So, if you want to help me spread the word about this podcast, and you probably know if you do, please rate and review this podcast. Also, please rate and review this podcast. Consider sharing it with someone you uh..  know,  I mean if it’s not too much trouble…. just forget it. I’m asking too much. (Off mic)”Don’t push people Mike. Don’t push people.” Anyway, just rate and review the show… that’s fine.  And I’ll see you right back here next week as we kick off season 4 with a new title song, a new logo, and fresh batch of new hooks.  Bye bye.

(off mic…) Yeah!  I stuck the landing!

Share.
