Hey this is Mike McCready, your host on episode 75 of the Hookblast Podcast.

I can’t believe this is season 5.  In school, I learned there are only four seasons, but for The Hookblast Podcast there are now 5 seasons.  Yeah. We’re defying nature here.  My favorite seasons are Spring, Summer, and Fall.  But Winter?  Winter is like the Justin Bieber of seasons.  It’s kinda nice and exciting when it first starts out but after a while it’s obnoxious and should probably just stay in Canada.

This is the podcast where we discover a few new catchy songs. You add the ones you love to your favorite streaming playlists or follow mine at Hookblast.com You rock out all week, and the next week we repeat.

Speaking of repeating…. it seems like the pandemic is taking off again due to this Delta variant. I went to get a test the other day and the Covid nurse asked me if I’ve had a sudden loss of taste.  I was like, “No…. I’ve dressed like this for quite a while.”

OK. Hookblast.com is where you go to vote for your favorite song on today’s episode. And with that, let’s play some hooks!I don’t know about you, but I used to hate it when homeless people would shake their can of change at me….  I mean, I get it…  you have more money than me. No need to rub it in.

This is Nick Orr & The Spectrum with their song Shake ‘Em On Down.

Wow!  That song will get you dancing. I love to dance. I won a dance contest once and… well, I didn’t win, I came it secon… well, OK I got second to last… but I still say second.

Anyway, up next is an artist who goes by Storm AKA Storm.  It’s a song written about the Black Lives Matter movement and its impact on our society and music. This is So Tired.

That’s So Tired..   I know something about that…  The other night, I was really tired but couldn’t get to sleep. Now, I think counting sheep is boring, so I counted polar bears.  Which leads me to today’s tip. Never count an endangered species when you’re trying to fall asleep….  because you run out of  ’em. …   and you can’t get any more.

Anyway, The Hookblast Podcast is brought to you by Music Xray. MusicXray.com is where the music industry goes to find new songs and talent for all kinds of opportunities, from placing songs into TV shows, movies, advertising campaigns, podcasts, and even to sign new artists to labels. New artist users can apply promocode hookblast21 at checkout.

Speaking of checkout, the other day I wanted to buy one of those Covid supermarket checkout dividers…. but the lady behind the counter kept pulling it back.

Anyway, now we’re going to check out this song from the band, MacArthur.  Arthur Winer is the songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist for MacArthur and he’s a music professor at Cal Poly Pomona, a large southern California university. He teaches recording technology and runs an ensemble for student songwriters. Sophie Rae, the female vocalist on this song is a former student!

This is Pick Up Flip

On the heels of Pick Up Flip is dolylamby’s posse with Stawberry Fields Again.  Dolylamby’s possy says it’s time for the world to stop arguing and to focus on what’s really important.  America’s Got Talent!…  wait, no, peace and love.  Here it is, Strawberry Fields again.

OK, you come for the great music but you stay for the helpful life tips I throw in. And ever though I already gave you the one about polar bears, here’s another… OK. OK… if you’re tired of waiting for boiling water when you make pasta, try boiling a few pots at the beginning of the month and then freeze it and it will be ready to use whenever you want them. I froze some on Thursday.

And that’s today’s bonus tip. You can thank me by leaving a five-star rating and a review in your favorite podcast app.

Next up we’re going to listen to Sleep At Night by jaycee featuring Yona. Jaycee says this song was born when jaycee was listening to a 90’s instrumental and he started to sing “I can’t sleep at night” over the top and it just worked.  Heh… as I was saying… I can’t sleep at night either. I went to see my sleep doctor about it.  I don’t think she appreciated me knocking on her door at 3AM.

OK.  That’s all the time we have for episode 75 of The Hookblast Podcast. All songs are used with the permission of the rights holders. Don’t forget to go vote for your favorites today by navigating to episode 75 at hookblast.com and I’ll catch you right back here next week with a fresh batch of new hooks. Bye Bye.
