Hey this is Mike McCready, your host on episode 78 of The Hookblast Podcast.

Well hey there. I’m glad you showed up.  I’m in a pretty good mood today.  It’s not every day my wife says something nice to me… I mean,  first thing in the morning….  or ok any time really….  but this morning when I got dressed and was about to leave, she looked at me said everyone sees me as a father figure…  ok, well her actual words were that everyone notices my dad bod. But a dad bod is the same thing as a father figure…. I looked it up. Yeah well….  if I weren’t so amazing I’d probably have to talk myself up a lot.

Anyway, this is the podcast where we discover a few new catchy songs.  You add the ones you love to your own streaming playlists or follow mine at Hookblast.com.  You rock out all week and the next week we repeat…. or as we musicians like to say, D.C al Coda. That was an inside joke for musicians like me.  It’s Latin for I’m a band nerd.

So, we’re a few episodes into season 5. What do you think of my new theme music? It’s Love Turn by Rick Rocker…. I have an intern who walks 30 feet ahead of me and plays this song really loud through Bluetooth speakers. Yeah.  But I’ve found that it’s really only awkward in public restrooms….  because of the bad acoustics.

OK.  Let’s play some hooks.

We’re going to start off today with a song by Cats and Dragons. It’s their first attempt at a single. It’s called, Getting Used To It. Talk  about getting used to something…. I’m getting used to being taken for granted at home.  I heard my wife talking to her friend the other day who was saying her husband is an angel. My wife said, oh, you’re lucky. My husband is still alive.

That’s Cats and Dragons.

Up next is a great female empowerment song… it’s about never giving up and it’s from writer Michael Casali and artist Emily Hope. I know something about that… the other night I was hungry and so I asked my wife if she knew the fastest way to a man’s heart.  She said yeah, through his chest with a sharp knife. I think she was just having a bad week.

This is Go Down Swingin’

OK.  Behind that we have a song called Virtual Vibe by Vante Poems. Vante says that he wrote this song after being inspired by a beautiful woman he was crushing on on Instagram. Let’s check it out.

That’s Virtual Vibe….  I know something about online dating.  I tried it recently, you know, just so I can be informed and stuff… cuz, I’m a married man.  I found it really refreshing. The ladies these days really want to get to know you.  The other night I was flirting with a girl from Nigeria…  well, actually, she’s a princess. She asked really great questions… like what was the name of my first pet and what street I lived on in 1998, and even my mother’s maiden name.

They say this new generation is superficial but I found just the opposite. I-I still think its best to meet people the old fashioned way though….  alcohol and bad judgement.

OK…. Evan Kremin is back. Kinda like “not” jokes.  They’re funnier than ever….  not!  hehehehe  ok ok…  sometimes I don’t even know how I do it.

Ok, but Even Kremin is bringing us a song he wrote called “She”.  The first time he performed it, he dedicated it to a pretty girl he saw in the audience, which led to a one-night stand that went terribly wrong….  because they’ve been married now for a while.

OK….  you come for the great music but you stay for the helpful life tips I throw in. Today’s is a quick one… OK. OK.  If you sleep til noon, you only have to pay for two meals a day. It’s simple folks. But sometimes it takes me to be Captain Obvious….  like the fact communism wasn’t going to work. It didn’t take a genius to see all the red flags. hehehe…   … I don’t know how I do it.

OK. OK But do you know what else is obvious? That if you’re a musician, you can go to Music Xray.com  to have your songs considered for music industry opportunities. Even if you aren’t ready to submit them, you can open a free account, upload your music, and Music Xray will alert you about industry professionals who are already looking for songs that sound like yours. If you are a new user, you can also use the promo code hookblast21 at checkout.

A musician named Jimmie Jay Anderson always signed his emails with the quote, “Make It A Great Day”. So one day, his producer challenged him to write a song to that line. Jimmie loved the song he came up with so much that it became the title track to his album. This is Make It A Great Day. Which you should, you know, … unless you have other plans.

OK. That’s all the time we have for Episode 78 of The Hookblast Podcast.  Add the songs you loved today to your own streaming playlists or go find mine at Hookblast.com Please share this episode with someone in your life who you think would love this show. You know who they are. All songs are used with the permission of the rights holders. I’ll catch you right back here next week with a fresh batch of new hooks.  Bye bye
