Hey this is Mike McCready, your host on episode 88 of The Hookblast Podcast.

88 episodes.  Wow!  88 miles per hour is how fast Marty McFly had to get his DeLorean going in order to time travel. Also, there are 88 keys on a piano.  I know this because my grandfather took his own life by eating them all. Everyone was really upset because he didn’t leave a note……. hehehe  see what I did there?

Life is kinda like a piano….   What you get out of it depends on how you play.   And really, there’s nothing remarkable about it. All you have to do is be able to read music, hit the right keys at the right time, spend 5000 hours with a piano teacher and the instrument practically plays itself.

Anyway, this is the podcast where we discover. Few new catchy songs. You add the ones you love to your own streaming playlists or follow mine on Hookblast.com. Then you rock out all week, and the next week we repeat.

I hope your November has been going well. Mine’s been rough. I signed up for a Zoom workout class that was too advanced, so when the instructor said “do a plank and bring your knee up to your opposite elbow, I did a modified version where I turned off my computer and made pancakes.

OK. Let’s play some hooks.Kicking off the show this week is The Underground Railroad with a song that asks a question. Quote “With all the bad and crazy in a relationship, why is love like an addiction, especially when the blame is on both sides and sometimes you simply have to walk away from it.” Unquote

Or in my case, as you walk away from it she reminds you that you still have her vacuum cleaner, and you remind her that she still has your weed whacker and her she makes her point by weed whacking your legs and when you’re laying the ground screaming in pain she takes the vacuum cleaner and uses it to suck your tummy fat but then you finally get her to leave but she keeps sending her sister to put nasty signs in front of your house. This is When You’re Around

That is Underground Railroad with When You’re Around

The Hookblast Podcast is sponsored by Music Xray and this week we have a special announcement. And I am proud to say that The Hookblast Podcast is now available on all domestic flights in the United States on every airline, servicing every airport in the country…. You know, … as long as you download it and bring your phone with you on your flight.

Anyway, Music Xray is where musicians go to have their songs licensed into movies, TV shows, advertisements, and even played live at NBA and NFL games in arena and stadiums. New musician users can apply hookblast21 at checkout.

Paul Kaminski and Hugh van der Linden have teamed up to form The PH Project, which encourages young people to be the best they can, and to make a difference in the world. I have my own PH project. It’s very complicated but it involves emollients,  having the right shampoo, and getting the right PH balance, and reducing dandruff. But in the end, I shaved my head, which also made a big difference in the world. This is Shine

On the heels of Shine is artist Donna Dutchess who co-wrote this following song with a fellow band-member back in 1983. It was their anthem song about the troubling days of steel plant closures, unemployment, and hard times.

Donna had this song demoed a few years ago and feels it’s still very relevant today.I remember when I was unemployed. Looking for work as a hand model. I remember how humiliating it was, pleading with anyone who would listen…  for a hand job.  That was years ago. Fortunately, I was able to settle out of court…. and I just got three months of community service.

This is Something To Make Me Sing

OK. That’s a great little ditty in 2/4 time. Two Four time…. not to be confused with twofer time you know, as in two fer one drinks …Twofer time..  Also known as happy hour at most bars and pubs, well except the one I went to last Thursday and got a little drunk and I thought I was doing really good but they stopped me before I could finish my reenactment of the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan.

Following that is Ron Roka with his spirit-lifter song, Let Us In.

That is Ron RokaAnd now we have Bee Jennings with a pick-me-up country/rock song, Just Tryin To Get By. He says it’s all about surrounding yourself with good people.

My uncle died surrounded by family and good people.  He put up a fight but we were finally able to choke the life out of him.

OK.  That’s all the time we have for episode 88 of The Hookblast Podcast. The best way to support this show is to share it with people in your life who can use a few new catchy songs in theirs. You can also go to ratethispodcast.com/hookblast  and leave a 5-star rating and a review in your favorite podcast app. All songs and used with the permission of the rights holders. Remember to add the songs you loved to your playlists or follow mine at hookblast.com and play them all week. I’ll catch you right back here next week with a fresh batch of new hooks.

And remember, only reach for the stars….. when their private security detail isn’t looking.  Bye bye

Share.
