Hey this is Mike McCready, your host on this bonus episode 3 of The Hookblast Podcast. I didn’t want to record this episode because I was just watching uncensored reruns of The Road Runner cartoons and they’re both fascinating and disturbing.  I don’t know about you, but I didn’t realize they’d been beeping the RoadRunner all these years.  Wow!  He has a mouth on him!!

Season 4 of this podcast finished at the end of June and since I have to go away for the month of July, Season 5 will gets going when I get out on good behavior on August 5th, and in the meantime, this is the third of four bonus episodes of the show.  This is the podcast where we discover a few new catchy songs. I only play the hooks so you know right away whether or not to add the songs to your own streaming playlists

Music is like life in that you should always try new things…. but you don’t want to stick with them if they aren’t going well. Like for example, in early June, I went to an acupuncturist and when I got home my voodoo doll was dead.  I-I won’t be going back.

If you don’t want to add the songs you love to your own streaming playlists, you can follow mine at Hookblast.com.  You rock out all week and the next week we repeat.  Did you rock out last week? Well if you forgot to, it’s ok.  I have ADD so I —  I don’t know where I was going with that. OK.  Let’s play some hooks.

First up on the show today is someone who has become a friend of mine…. it’s Ben Novak from New Zealand. He sent me this song years ago and I thought it was amazing. I showed it to a few of my friends who work in the music industry and it later went on to become a top 10 hit in 7 countries for British artist Lee Ryan.  This is Tour Your Car Around.

Speaking of New Zealand…. This was the first year my wife and I had to cancel our vacation plans because of Covid….  Every other year, we’ve had to cancel because of money.

OK… here we go….  The Hookblast Podcast is sponsored by Music Xray. You know all about Music Xray so I’ll just tell you that if you’re a musician or if you know one, Music Xray can help get great music into music industry opportunities.

You’re listening to Billy Phillips sing Only In My Dreams…. it’s a song written a few years ago by Toni Ten, Billy Phillips, and yours truly. …Yes!!  I knew I’d get a song onto the show one way or another.

It was never released…..  kinda like Bernie Madoff.  Yeah…  this is a bonus episode so my usual rules of not playing any of my own music don’t apply.  Rules are kind of confusing anyway. At least the ones I grew up with were. I mean, my father taught me two important rules. 1. Never judge people based on stereotypes and 2. Never trust a Frenchman. If you run a major corporation and want to pay a lot of money to use this song, you know…  call me.

Coming up behind Only In My Dreams is artist Jason Masi. Jason says he lives near vineyards and sees a lot of couples on dates. He says this song celebrates those little wine-tasting moments.  I know something about that…. for example, I LOVE cooking with wine….  sometimes I even put it in the food. Jason says the TV series The Young and The Restless has featured a lot of his music but that this song is the one that’s appeared the most.

This is Love’s Lips.

OK…  I thought we’d finish this episode early since you know, it’s a summer-break bonus episode, but I’ve just been told my contract requires me to play you two more hooks. So coming up behind Love’s Lips is the song that was the title track of this show in seasons 1, 2, & 3.  It’s Billy Phillips again with, Running Out Of Lime. Out of lime? No. Running out of LINE. I-I ran out of orange juice yesterday.

That’s a good song.  My grandfather used to run out of line…  We weren’t close when he died…. which is a good thing because he stepped on a land mine.

OK. This is almost the end of the show and I haven’t yet thrown in a helpful life tip….  so here’s one…. you can save time brushing your teeth after you eat by just substituting toothpaste for ketchup on your burger…. that’s what I do…

OK.  That’s all the time we have for this 3rd bonus episode of summer 2021.  I’ll be right back here next week with a fresh batch of new hooks. In the meantime, please share this show with someone who can use a few new catchy songs in their life.  Bye Bye.

Share.
