Hey this is Mike McCready, your host on episode 53 of The Hookblast Podcast.  This is the podcast where we discover a few new catchy songs.  I suppose you know that already. It’s like, written in the description of the show. I only play the hooks so you never have to sit through an entire song that makes you wish I had never been born. You add the ones you love to your own streaming playlists, or subscribe to mine at Hookblast.com.  You rock out all week, and the next week, we repeat.  Today’s TikTok dancer is Chris Jessy and she’s from Nigeria.

OK. I hope you’re into the swing of the year. The pandemic is still upon us and it can be hard to feel optimistic.  I’m struggling. To whoever stole my antidepressants… I hope you’re happy now!!! My last couple episodes have been a little dark. I’m gonna try to pep it up a little bit today. I’m just trying to cope. My parents are getting older, … my mom has had some health challenges recently, and well, my dad calls to complain that he can’t do what he used to do…. you know,  shoot at the North Vietnamese.  Everyone’s got their thing.  Yeah, times are tough…. And don’t talk to me about unemployment… I come from a small fishing village in Nebraska. I’ve been hearing about it all my life.  “It’s gettin’ pertanear supper time so we better head in. Did you order all this rain? If you don’t hold still I can’t get the nail outta yer head.” Anyway, I can’t remember the last time anyone caught any walleye in those pastures.

OK…. let’s play some hooks.

First up on the show today is a song about a guy who is dating two girls, cuz I guess you can do that these days. In the song,  while he’s playing one of them off the other, and he gets dumped by both of them.   Ok.  makes more sense now.  But it’s like my grandma Treva always used to say, “You’re never alone if you have music in your heart”. But she said that to all of her accordion students. Accordion players rule. Everybody knows that.
This is the band, Dead Freddie with Mary’s Waiting.

Alright, if you like that song, chances are you’re a fan of Sex Pistols or even Buddy Holly.

Next up, if you’re a fan of Jack Johnson you’ll love this song by returning artist, Jay Sinclair. He’s from Seattle but now he lives in a van down by the river… er  a boat in the San Diego Marina…. this is his song, California Dream.

Wow. That song made me feel better. Maybe I should have put that one on, one or two episodes ago.

Following California Dream is an artist who goes by Chickahominy Vibe. He’s from Washington DC. His production team is in Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. This song is called Colonyzer… spelled with a y.

OK… you probably know that you can navigate to episode 53 at hookblast.com to vote for your favorite song in today’s episode.  And you should because it’s a great way to show your support … well, of the internet.   The Internet’s pretty cool isn’t it?  It’s been catching on. The song with the most votes two episodes ago, on episode 51 was Temporary You by Jay Sinclair… you know, the San Diego Marina guy we just heard from again. Only you can prevent him from running away with it again this week…. or you know, ensuring he does.  On the episode before that, episode 50 the song with the most votes was “Get Back On That Horse” by DMK Music.  That’s a good song.  I guess that’s why you voted for it.

OK… I’m gonna blow your socks off with this next one cuz it really rocks!  Well, actually it’s pretty chill. It’s by artist Stephen Edgerton and his song Pinstripe Blue. He said the first line of the song just came to him right out of the… pinstripe er sorry.  He said it didn’t really make a lotta sense.  I’ll say…. I mean, ok. “you look ravishing really in your pinstripe blue and I don’t know what to do”….  He was going to scrap that line but it kinda works… Let’s check it out.

That’s a nice little song.

Next up on today’s show is a song called “How This Love Thang Works by Rick Lee Vinson. He co-wrote this song with Nashville songwriter Mark Riddick and he says the driving factor of this tune is the hesitation in the hook and drawing out the word “thang!”, which in Texan English means ….. heh. I’m just kidding. I don’t know what that is but they don’t speak English in Texas.

You can find more music like that by visiting rickleevinson.com

Ok. Some news…  Are you buckled in? Because of you, this podcast hit number 39 this week on the Global Music Podcast Chart according to Chartable. And, when you think about it… that’s in the top 40. That’s pretty cool because there are almost 60 million podcasts in existence…. ok only 2 million but a lot of them are in the music category. Chartable says that in 2020 there were two new podcasts created every minute and there are something like over 30 million podcast episodes out there. That’s like one episode for every 30 million people. Wait… no… well anyway…

I’m supposed to thank and congratulate my team about all this but you know, that would take the spotlight off me, the best podcast host in the whole history of podcast hosts. But anyway… I don’t make this show alone, so you can find the credits under each episode at hookblast.com. Please rate and review this show. There’s a link in the show notes where you can do that… but more importantly, keep sharing this podcast with your friends… cuz, that seems to be working. Go vote for your favorite song today at Hookblast.com.

That’s all the time we have for episode 53 of The Hookblast Podcast.  All songs are used with permission of the rights holders.  I’ll catch you right back here next week with a fresh batch of new hooks… and hopefully my medication.  Bye bye

Share.
