Script draft:

Hey, this is Mike McCready, the real-life version of the word “Groovy”, and your host on episode 55 of The Hookblast Podcast.
It’s been another tough week, I’m afraid. But it’s getting better. My wife and I had been debating whether to bury her great aunt or have her cremated. Yeah…  We couldn’t agree, so in the end we just decided to let her keep on living… you know… for now. So anyway… we kicked the can down the road on that one.

Today’s TikTok dancer is Menea.  You can check her out by navigating to episode 55 at Hookblast.com or by checking out this podcast episode on YouTube…. which I know you’ve been secretly doing anyway… cuz… I’m not bad looking… well, pretty good looki… well, I guess attractiv… well, absolutely stunning.

Rockin’ To The Dance Floor, the song you’re hearing now is available for licensing deals via Music Xray. If you’re in the Industry and want to put it to good use, contact me and I’ll pass along your info to Lance and well, to his attorney. You know… he doesn’t talk to me anymore due to that incident with the giraffe… but I’m not supposed to talk about that, you know… according to the settlement.

Well, Valentine’s Day is behind us. I don’t know about you but I’m quite the romantic.  This year my wife confessed I’m the only one she’s ever been with. Yeah. She said prior to me she’d only been with solid eights or nines. But it’s ok.  I know she loves me. And she really gets me. In fact, she said I’m a very underrated podcast host, which she completely gets. So… yeah.

OK. Let’s play some hooks.

Minxey is a London based artist who struggled with an addiction to opioids. Fortunately, that struggle, like her back pain is behind her now…  back pain… behind her…  I know… I’m a genius. “Painkiller” is a song about numbing out the bad times that we all experience. You know, last the last season of Game of Thrones. The song showcases Minxey’s skills as a recording artist and storyteller. You might dig this track if you’re a fan of Halsey, Sia and Lennon Stella.

That’s Painkiller by Minxey.
OK.  You know what they say… give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he’ll sit in his boat all day writing great songs. That’s what Jay Sinclair does. He lives on a boat in the San Diego Marina. It’s a nice boat, even though I didn’t get to stay on it very long due to the bomb threat joke I made and then the police came and it was a whole mess but anyway…

This is “If You Weren’t Alone”.

That’s If You Weren’t Alone.
And, you know, I like to offer words of encouragement, so… if you ever think no one cares you exist, try missing a couple mortgage payments…. it works.

Coming up next on today’s episode is a little Pop/Soul song from artist, Dondi (Don-dee). It’s a song about attitude. He says, if you don’t want to feel down, then live it up. You know, the way I did on Valentines Day when I gave my wife a guided tour of the morgue…. we even got “I survived a trip to the morgue” buttons to wear… it’s a whole thing… yeah, it was wonderful. What convinced me to propose it was when I heard people are dying to go….   I just got that.
This is Live It Up.

OK.  You can vote for your favorite song today by navigating to episode 55 at hookblast.com.  The song with the most votes 2 weeks ago was Pinstripe Blue by Stephen Edgerton. It’s pretty cool you’re engaging with the show.  At first, I was reluctant to start this podcast because well, you know, I thought podcasters were just people who talk while everyone else sleeps. I had to stop listening to most podcasts because I got tired of waking up to someone saying, “May I see your license and registration.” That’s annoying.
Anyway… here comes a toe-tapper with a bluesy-country vibe. It’s by artist Red:30 and it’s called A Little Bit O’ Honey Goes A Long Way.
It the story of a woman who carelessly walks in and out of a man’s life at will, but a little bit o’ honey is enough to keep him hanging on. That, and the fact that she had video of him at the Air Supply tribute band concert.  That would be embarrassing.

If you’re a fan of Melissa Etheridge and Miranda Lambert, that song might speak to you.

Before we get to our last hook today, I want to tell you that this podcast is brought to you by Music Xray, where nearly half a million songwriters, bands, producers and performers are scanned for bone fractures and blood clots… no… just kidding… it ‘s where they find commercial and exposure opportunities for their music. The company, uses a combination of music analysis software, machine learning, data analytics, peanut butter and crackers… oh sorry, I’m hungry..  and crowd-sourcing of industry professionals and fans to identify high potential songs and talent. There may be a little voodoo involved too. I don’t know… In fact, the other day, my wife yelled at me from upstairs, “Hey… do you ever get a sharp pain in your chest like someone has a voodoo doll of you and is stabbing you with a needle?”  I was like, “No.” Then she was like, “How about now?”

Last up on the show today is a song by artist SYTE (site). SYTE says Feel It All depicts Quote, “a divine calling to embark on a journey of self-awareness—riding waves of love, dreams, and memories, both conscious and forgotten, till the ego is surrendered and the body becomes an accepting passageway for the slices of bread in the toaster awaiting the peanut butter… oh sorry…  still hungry-… anyway, a passageway for all things to flow through and to be felt.”unquote.
Boy, talk about self awareness….  My friends say I have a lack of self awareness. Ridiculous!  If I lacked self awareness, I think I’d know it.
This is Feel It All

If you like that song you’re probably also into Dua Lipa, Benee, Toro Y Moi.
OK. That’s all the time we have for episode 55 of The Hookblast Podcast. All songs are used with the permission of the rights holders. You can find the full versions of these songs by checking the links in the show notes. Please share this episode with a friend who can use a few new catchy songs in their life. Or you can do like I do…. play it on repeat for the hostages. Just make sure they have enough water. I’ll catch you back here next week with a fresh batch of new hooks. Bye bye.
