Hey this is Mike McCready, your host on episode 67 of The Hookblast Podcast.  67 is the natural number following 66 and preceding 68. It is an odd number. Kinda like Come On Eileen by Dexys Midnight Runners… That’s an odd little number…. hehehehehe……  yeah…. I still got it!

This is the podcast where we discover a few new catchy songs. Then we do it again the following week. It’s all free here. No charge. Unless you count getting charged with excessive good taste in podcasts. B-but that’s not a crime and it’s still free.

I hope things are going well for you. Now that I’ve been getting back into the office, I get my music industry life and my hobbies confused. I’ve been spending one night a week at the astronomy club here in the neighborhood, and one of the kids there asked me how stars die. I wasn’t thinking, so I said, “usually an overdose, son.”Yeah…. now I can’t go back.

OK.  Let’s play some hooks.

The Sour Brothers are back.  hehehehe…. that sounds like something you’d hear right before a bar fight breaks out….   or in my case I still remember getting beat up by the Needleman twins at their 6th birthday party. I guess shouldn’t have laughed at the cake on Robbies nose.  Well that was a couple weeks ago and I’ve gotten over it.

Actually, the Sour Brothers were featured on episode 47 with their song “Cry No More”. They refer to their style of midwest music as Söurlicious Rock with a Country Twang — Better Days is their new song meant to remind us that… well, Better Days are coming back now the the pandemic is waning… This is Better Days

I went to a fortune teller to see if better days were in my future and she yes but that I’m going to suffer a very difficult heartbreak in about 12 years. That’s sad. Ugh,  so to make myself feel better, later, think I’m gonna go buy a puppy.

This next song is about the journey that is marriage. It is performed by married couple, Justin and Kayla Hooper. This is Go With You.

OK.  We’re really into the swing of the show today aren’t we?  Yeah, I’d say it’s going great.  The Hookblast Podcast is sponsored by Music Xray. Musicians can open a free account, upload their songs and Music Xray runs them through music analysis software and matches them to industry opportunities. It’s free, at musicxray.com

The band Random Dogs is on the show today with a song that addresses humanity’s need to do better. Hehehe… I’ll say…. There are a lot of weird statistics about humans.  For example, the other day I learned humans eat more bananas than monkeys.  I mean…. duh….  I can’t even remember the last time I ate a monkey.

This is Mankind Dawn

That’s a good song….OK…. Ian Jenkinson wrote this next song when he realized how fast life can pass him by.   I know what he means. These ten minutes you and I spend together each week just fly by, don’t they? Yet I feel like we’ve really gotten to know each other. I’m glad we’re friends. This is, Where Have All The Years Gone

Don’t forget to go to hookbast.com and navigate to episode 67 to vote for your favorite song on today’s episode. There was a tie two weeks ago on episode 65 between Supernova by Melissa Divanna and The Philosopher by Delanina for the most votes.  Add the songs you love on this episode to your streaming playlists or follow mine on Spotify, Apple, YouTube, and SoundCloud….  and I also will actually SING the songs to you on the phone if you call….  just promise you won’t laugh at my singing style. I like to think it as a cross between Cartman from Southpark and Ella FitzGerald.OK.

Here’s something a little out of the ordinary.  This is Robyn Charles with a song called Bad Influence, which she wrote about her father, who she says was a womanizer and well, a Bad Influence.  Who was the father of Robyn Charles? The legendary musician, Ray Charles. This is bad influence.

That’s a powerful song.

OK. That’s all the time we have for episode 67 of The Hookblast Podcast.  All songs are used with the permission of the rights holders.  If you enjoy this show, please leave us a 5-star rating and a review in your podcast app. Tweet about it.
